Through adapted games and exercises, they’ll gain in confidence and enjoyment, while laying the foundations for legible, serene handwriting. An asset for their academic success and personal development!
On the program:
🖐️ Hand toning de la main (finger gymnastics, body mobility, graphism)
✏️ Learning good posture and how to hold a pencil.
✍️ Training in legible handwriting (letter shapes, sequencing, respect for lines).
Principles
The principles of these activities
Enhancing interpersonal skills
These are times when life skills are particularly valued, helping children to develop their emotional and relational skills.
Bringing Petits Plus values to life
Within the Leisure Center, we bring to life the values of Les Petits Plus: “Think, think about yourself and put the world into action” through a cultural mediation approach enriched with new education (Montessori, Freinet). Nourished by research work on “Education in art, Education through art” led by Emilie Lebel, cultural mediator, it is about connecting individuals, the intimate and the universal by bringing together artistic and philosophical practices on the one hand, and the child’s rhythm and autonomy on the other.
Thought as exploration
Leisure time is conceived as an opportunity for exploration, encouraging discovery and enabling children to play an active role in their own lives. This is achieved by combining guided workshops, where children can develop their imagination, emotions and critical thinking, with free experimentation in a spirit of free play and autonomy.
To promote openness to the world, partnerships with cultural organizations and intergenerational projects are encouraged.
EXPLORATION AND DISCOVERY
The aim of discovery and exploration is to put children in the position of explorers, that is, to seek, discover and understand, without any obligation to achieve results, good or bad answers. These explorations are driven by astonishment, curiosity, the pleasure of creating and the realization that we can act on the world. These are guided workshops combining art and philosophy in line with the year’s theme. “Discovery Explorations” are structured around 4 themes:
FREE EXPLORATION
During “Free Explorations,” children are invited to freely explore what interests them, within an enriched environment. There are no set goals, simply the pleasure of doing, sharing, playing and exploring for oneself, not for the sake of pleasing others. They can revisit at their own pace what they discovered in the morning or invent something new. It’s about experiencing moments of connection to strengthen self-esteem and empathy. Free explorations allow them to connect with the arts and culture. The adult is no longer a source of suggestions but a facilitator. They serve the child’s explorations.
Free time is inspired by Montessori, as it involves supporting the child to do things on their own and develop their self-confidence. Independence is further developed in the afternoon, as the child chooses their own activity and devotes as much time as they wish to it. Manual and sensory work is valued, as according to Montessori, the hand is man’s primary tool.
To achieve this, attention is paid to the design so that experimentation coexists: building, inventing, manipulating materials (fabrics, cardboard, clay, etc.), painting, modeling, listening to music, etc. All of this is possible thanks to the Art and Creativity Platforms provided for the child. We seek to promote cognitive stimulation to allow children to discover the world and nurture their curiosity.

Our team
The educational team

Yolène
Montessori Director and Educator
Teaching quickly became a natural path for her. Passionate about foreign languages and visual arts, she studied English and simultaneously worked as a summer camp counselor and later as a coordinator for language immersion programs.

Yolène taught English for several years in various institutions before moving to the United States in 2008 with her husband and their 2-year-old daughter. Settling in New York, she discovered the American early childhood education environment, characterized by gentle teaching styles that combined comfort and well-being, play and academic content, all within warm and egalitarian teacher-student relationships. She became interested in active learning methods, especially the Reggio Emilia approach she observed and was fascinated by at her daughters’ school.
Combining her passion for teaching languages and visual arts to young children, she played a key role in opening L’Ecole des Petits in 2009. The preschool’s mission was to provide a warm, stimulating French immersion environment for children aged 2 to 5. As pedagogical director, she successfully fostered a genuine community around the school throughout the years.
Returning to France in 2017, Yolène wanted to offer the approach she had so valued in the United States, which seemed less common in France. After discovering Les Petits Plus during a “Creating an Educational Space” training course, she joined the team in September 2018. She trained in the Montessori method, became the director and educator of Les Petits Plus school, and created a program combining Montessori pedagogy and the Reggio Emilia approach, inspired by the best of her teaching experiences in France and the United States.

Elodie
Montessori Educator

She immersed herself in the world of the Nido (0-3 years) with Eve Hermann and trained with Laurence Randoux. She also trained in non-violent communication, sign language and Brain Gym. She decided to use all these techniques in the corporate world, particularly through courses on supportive management practices. However, wanting to contribute more actively to positive global change, she decided to dedicate herself fully to children. Élodie then began her professional retraining, completing the Montessori Assistant course at ISMM and subsequently the 3-6 year old educator training with Marie-Hélène Barbier. After several experiences in different schools, she joined Les Petits Plus in 2019.

Francesca
Montessori Educator
Originally from Italy, Francesca’s passion for languages took her to the UK and France to further her education and career. Her language skills enable her to connect with and understand the diverse customs and traditions she encounters during her travels across continents.

Volunteering in a Cambodian school proved transformative, turning teaching into a true calling for her and leading her to Montessori pedagogy. Although she had long guided young learners in foreign languages, it was this experience that illuminated education as an essential resource – a powerful engine for global change, unlocking the potential within every child.

Her enduring interest in the Montessori approach led her to train as a 3-6 year old educator at ISMM in Lyon. After an initial experience in a Parisian Montessori school, she enthusiastically joined Les Petits Plus in January 2023!
